Articles

This lesson was about writing articles and blog posts. The key takeaways are:

  1. Know your audience – stay on topic with what your blog is about. [Well, I’m failing at that right now :)]
  2. Create Unique Content.
  3. Use the inverted pyramid
    • Important stuff first (Who, what, when, where, how, etc.)
    • Important supporting details
    • General background info

The assignment was to take an existing article I read that day and rewrite it with our own spin … I don’t read the news, nor do I read many articles. As I’ve pointed out, reality sucks so I avoid it most of the time. So, I pulled up Microsoft news and scrolled through until I found something I thought was interesting, well maybe not interesting, but not uninteresting.

Update 2023-03-03:

I received full credit for this. This is what the instructor said.

Very thoughtful, thank you.

An employee of a Boba shop shares a TikTok video of employees finding unique ways to rest after the only chair for them was taken away when a customer complained about them sitting.  As of Wednesday, the video had received over 472,000 views.  Details about the reason the customer was upset or who took the chair were not provided, but the TikTok video shows employees squatting, sitting on overturned buckets, and laying under the counters.

Many viewers were shocked and confused about how this could happen with many commenters showing support for the employees.  A common theme questioned the competence of management who would give in to apparently frivolous customer complaints at the expense of their own employees.

Many businesses are finding it hard to find employees right now.  Especially in the service industry.  It’s been suggested that maybe employers should look at the way they treat their employees and this incident seems to support that idea.  I guess whoever took the chair is more concerned with the opinions of the customers than having employees that will serve them.
