So this was about publishing options. There are a ton of options today, from old-school sending a manuscript to a big publisher to e-books on Amazon, Barnes and Nobel, and more. The best thing to do is do a search and find the approach you want to take.
The assignment for this was to write three paragraphs on publishing options I have.
There are many options for getting fiction work published. The traditional approach of sending manuscripts to existing publishers and hoping to get an offer is one. This approach is difficult, though. However, if a publisher does offer to publish your book they will handle the printing, distributing, and maybe even some book promotion. A disadvantage is, that with this approach the publisher usually has a fixed period, like two years, where they have exclusive rights to publish the book. If they do a bad job promoting it, you don’t have many options.
Self-publishing has become a viable path for new writers in the last 20 or so years. A good choice to start to get some recognition without a lot of capital outlay is to publish as an e-book. Amazon, Barn and Nobel, and other online book retailers offer self-publishing services with no initial capital outlay. They take a cut from the sale of every book. The downside of these services is having to manage all the possible places you publish. The writer is also responsible for promotion and advertising.
Another choice, if you want to have the traditional paper book, is to have it printed by a vanity publisher. The downside is that there is an initial outlay of money to get some books printed and you have to handle the distribution and sale yourself. The potentially high up-front cost can be avoided by using a print-on-demand publisher. The cost of printing is a bit higher so you either need to charge more for the book or make a lower profit.
