Writers Block

Writer’s block is the block where all the writers live. It’s usually identifiable by the untrimmed lawns and dead plants. No, writer’s block is when a writer can’t seem to find the words for the story. There are a lot of possible causes and a lot of things you can do to try to overcome them. Taking breaks, exercising, and sobering up are common methods of overcoming writer’s block

The lesson was to write a few paragraphs about how I overcome writer’s block. Unfortunately for the lesson, and maybe fortunately for me, I can’t say I’ve experienced any serious writer’s block. So, this isn’t very insightful or helpful.

Update 2023-03-06:

Full points again. Apparently, just writing is a good approach. Personally, when you can’t do something you have 2 options. Keep trying or quit, so if you like what you’re doing and want to do it, then just keep trying.

Outstanding!

I haven’t done much writing, outside of technical documentation, until recently.  Although I don’t feel like I’ve struggled with this course’s assignment, some of the topics have not been particularly interesting to me and I struggled to start them.   When that was the case I would get up and walk away for a bit and think about something else, make tea, or talk to the wife.  Often after the break, I would be able to start.

If stepping away didn’t work I would eventually just give up on writing something good and just started writing something.  In most cases, this evolved into something I felt good about.  I guess I would call this the just start writing, which I guess got the ideas flowing and the brain moving again.

That’s pretty much it.  I take a break, think about it, and if I’m still not sure I just start writing down words.   Maybe it’s the words on paper – virtual paper in my case – that give me something to move around until they come together in a way that creates the connection necessary to produce a coherent, or at least semi-coherent, thought.
